What is Aldara and what is it used for? Aldara is a cream that contains the active ingredient imiquimod. It comes in 250 mg sachets, each with 12.5 mg of imiquimod (5%). Aldara is indicated in adults for the treatment of the following skin diseases: warts on the genitals and around the anus, small basal cell carcinomas (slow-growing skin cancers), actinic keratosis of the face and scalp (abnormal precancerous growths of the skin appearing after excessive sun exposure) in patients whose system Immune works normally. It is used when other treatments cannot be used, like cryotherapy (freezing). This medication is only available through prescription.
